Inventory Management

Item Journals

We have added additional fields to the Item Journal so you can process Dual Unit of Measure items.

FieldPurpose
UnitsSpecifies the number of units of the item specified on the line for a Dual Unit of Measure Item. When you enter the units, the app will update the quantity using the average conversion to base.
Unit of Measure - UnitsSpecifies the unit of measure code that represents the units for the item. This field is for information purposes only.
Weight/Volume AdjustmentSpecifies that this line is a Weight/Volume adjustment. This allows you to make adjustments outside of the allowed tolerances for the item. For example, you might need to use this if you only need to adjust Weight/Volume.

Calculate Warehouse Adjustment

The Calculate Warehouse Adjustment action in the item journal is used to synchronise adjusted warehouse entries with the related item ledger entries. This action also considers the adjustments to units. You can read more about this feature here.

Physical Inventory Journals

FieldPurpose
Units (Calculated)Specifies the units on hand.
Units (Phys. Inventory)Specifies the units on hand of the item as determined from a physical count.

Item Reclassification Journals

The app allows you to use reclassification journals to reclassify dual unit of measure items. We have added the same fields as in the Item Journal.

Transfer Orders

The app allows you to use transfer orders to transfer dual unit of measure items. We have added the following fields:

FieldPurpose
UnitsSpecifies the number of units of the item specified on the line.
Units to ShipSpecifies how many units are being shipped.
Units to ReceiveSpecifies the number of units of the item specified on the line.
Over/Under Shipment QuantitySpecifies the over/under quantity allowed.
Over/Under Receipt UnitsSpecifies the over/under units allowed.

When shipping or receiving transfer orders, the app supports over/under shipment quantity and over/under receipt units to accommodate items with a variable relationship between units and weight/volume. This is similar to what is supported for sales and purchases.

Handing Residuals

The app continuously validates that the transactions for dual unit-of-measure items have units and weights/volumes specified and are within the tolerances allowed. Still, residuals are possible due to cutting loss, weight loss or user errors. The app can enable you to prevent residuals with setup. However, it is often not practical to enforce this during processing. Therefore, you may need to handle residuals on an ad-hoc basis or during a stock count.

Item Journals

Item Journals are usually used to make ad hoc adjustments. In the item journals, you can perform Weight/Unit Adjustments to correct the residuals - it is even possible to post a weight/volume only.

tip

Use the Weight/Volume Adjustment field to indicate that the line is a Weight/Volume adjustment.

Physical Inventory Journals

The Physical Inventory Journals allow Weight/Volume adjustments by default. Therefore, posting a physical inventory journal does not enforce the tolerances.

Handling Residual Units

While it is possible to post journals with weight/volume only, it is not possible to only post a journal with units. If you need to make a unit adjustment only, then the following is recommended:

  • Create a journal line with a weight/volume only and specify that this line is a weight/volume adjustment.
  • Create a second journal line with the unit adjustment and the weight/volume. The weight/volume entered on this line should reverse the effect of the first line.
