Receiving
Tasklet Mobile WMS provides built-in support for license plate receiving: operators can receive items into new license plates, or receive against a known incoming license plate. Put-away of those license plates is also supported through the standard put-away flow.
Advanced License Plating for Tasklet extends this foundation by adding the ability to scan an entire inbound license plate as a single receipt action, allocate its contents intelligently across open receipt lines, maintain the full license plate hierarchy through the receipt posting, and create license plate entries as a permanent record of what was received and where it was placed.
Receiving from a License Plate
When the app is enabled at a location, the operator can receive stock by scanning the license plate label on the inbound pallet or carton rather than scanning each item individually. The system reads the license plate, retrieves its known contents, and attempts to match those contents to open warehouse receipt lines.
Full License Plate Receipt
If the entire contents of the scanned license plate can be matched and allocated to open receipt lines, the system registers the full quantity in one step. The operator does not need to scan individual items or enter quantities manually.
The allocation follows a three-pass strategy to make the best use of the bin layout:
- Contents with a matching item and tracked lot are allocated first to receipt lines in the same bin as the license plate.
- Untracked contents are then allocated to remaining lines in the same bin.
- Any remaining content is allocated to lines in other bins as a fallback.
This approach keeps bin affinity intact where possible and avoids splitting receipt lines unnecessarily.
Filter-Based Receipt
When the license plate contents cannot be fully matched to open receipt lines in a single allocation — for example, when the inbound license plate contains more stock than the current receipt can absorb — the system falls back to a filter-based mode. The receipt lines are filtered to those that match the scanned license plate's contents, and the operator selects the line to receive against and confirms the quantity.
Receiving Hierarchical License Plates
For inbound shipments where license plates are nested — pallets containing cartons, or cartons containing serialised inner packs — the system collects the contents of the full hierarchy recursively. The entire nested structure is received as one unit, and the hierarchy relationships are preserved through to put-away and posting.
Receiving Multiple License Plates
A single warehouse receipt session can include multiple license plate scans. The operator scans one license plate, its contents are registered, and then the next license plate is scanned to continue until the receipt is complete.
To prevent accidental re-registration, the system tracks which license plates have already been received in the current session. Scanning a license plate that has already been received — or any license plate that is an ancestor of one already received — raises an error and prevents the duplicate registration.
Put-Away
After the warehouse receipt is posted, the put-away activity is created in Business Central in the usual way. License plate information flows through from the receipt into the put-away lines so that the operator works with the same license plate references throughout.
When put-away lines are processed at the device, the system updates the license plate location and bin to reflect the put-away destination, and records the movement in the license plate entry ledger. The license plate hierarchy is maintained through the put-away posting so that parent and child relationships remain accurate after the stock is placed.
Barcode Quantity Scanning
For locations that receive goods with barcoded quantity labels, the app supports quantity registration by scanning rather than manual entry. Three settings in Mobile WMS Setup control this behaviour at the location level:
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Register Qty. by Scan | Enables quantity registration by scanning a barcode during receipt instead of entering a number manually. |
| Use Barcode Quantities | Causes the system to read the quantity from the scanned barcode rather than using the receipt line quantity. |
| Enable Barcode Multiple | Allows the scanned quantity to be treated as a multiple — useful when a single barcode represents a pack or bundle with a known inner count. |
Location Setup
LP-based receiving must be enabled at the location before operators can use it. Two fields on the Location card control this:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Receive from LP | Enables the LP receiving flow at this location. When off, standard item-by-item receiving is used. |
| Receive to LP Mode | Controls whether receiving to a license plate is optional or mandatory for this location. |
GS1 SSCC validation for license plate numbers during receipt follows the same rules as picking. See GS1 SSCC Compliance for details.
Business Central Actions for Receiving
Receiving does not have to be exclusively device-driven. The following actions are available directly in Business Central:
- Assign License Plate — a back-office user can manually assign a license plate to a warehouse receipt line from the BC client, without using the scanner.
- License Plate Card and List — license plates created during receipt can be viewed, their content inspected, and their hierarchy browsed directly from Business Central.
- License Plate Entries — every receipt and put-away movement is recorded as a license plate entry and is reviewable from Business Central for traceability and audit purposes.
- License Plate Creation Import — for initial stock set-up or large receiving operations, license plates and their content can be built in bulk from Business Central without device involvement. See License Plate Creation Import.
