Setup
The Purchase Requisition Portal is a connected Microsoft solution that combines Business Central, Power Apps, Dataverse, Power Pages, and SharePoint. The Business Central app alone is not sufficient for deployment; the Power Apps solution, the Power Pages site, and the supporting SharePoint and Azure components are also required.
Prerequisites
Before setting up the solution, confirm that you have:
- A Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment that supports the app
- A Power Apps / Dataverse environment for the portal backend
- A Power Pages site for the requester experience
- A SharePoint document site for requisition-related files
- An Azure App Registration for SharePoint integration
- Appropriate permissions for administrators, approvers, and portal users
- The Theta Advanced Integration with Dataverse app will be installed as well as a dependency to this app
Solution architecture
The solution is structured as follows:
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central provides the requisition management, approvals, workflow control, and financial integration.
- Business Central connects to the Power Apps environment through the native Dataverse connection.
- The Power Apps solution creates and manages the Dataverse tables and provides administrators with access to the data through the provided forms.
- The Power Pages site is deployed as a single-site Power Pages solution and provides the requester-facing experience through a React-based website.
- SharePoint integration requires a dedicated document site and an Azure App Registration to enable document storage and retrieval.
1. Contact us for the portal components
The Business Central app is only one part of the implementation. To complete the deployment, the Power Apps solution and Power Pages site must be provisioned and configured by us or your implementation team. Contact us to arrange:
- The Power Apps solution deployment
- The Power Pages site setup
- Dataverse configuration and environment readiness
- SharePoint and Azure integration setup
2. Install the Business Central app
- Import or install the Purchase Requisition Portal app in Business Central.
- Open the relevant setup pages and review the default configuration.
- Ensure the app is published and available to the intended users.
- Confirm that the Dataverse connection and dependent components are available.
3. Configure the requisition setup
In the Business Central setup area for the solution, configure the core settings that govern the requisition process:
- Approval workflow settings
- Default currency and posting-related parameters
- SharePoint integration settings
- Dataverse connection settings
- Integration settings for the portal-backed components
4. Configure the Power Apps and Power Pages components
The Power Apps and Power Pages components must be configured as part of the broader solution deployment. This includes:
- Provisioning the required Dataverse tables and forms
- Connecting the portal to the Business Central data model
- Enabling the requester experience through the Power Pages site
- Configuring document storage and retrieval through SharePoint
5. Set up requesters, approvers, and administrators
Create or maintain the users who will interact with the solution:
- Requesters submit new requisitions through the portal
- Approvers review and process approvals in Business Central workflows
- Administrators manage setup, configuration, governance, and reporting
6. Test the end-to-end process
Before rolling out to users, test the full process:
- Create a sample requisition through the portal
- Attach supporting documents
- Submit it for approval
- Review the workflow status in Business Central
- Approve or reject the request and confirm the result
Support
Because this solution spans multiple Microsoft services, implementation should be coordinated with us or your implementation partner to ensure the Business Central app, Power Apps solution, Power Pages site, Dataverse environment, SharePoint integration, and Azure App Registration are all configured correctly.
