Setup Guide
Easily configure Additional Sales Charges to automate surcharges, fees, and levies on sales documents. Follow these steps to get started.
Additional Sales Charges Setup
In Business Central, search for Additional Sales Charges Setup.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Enable Additional Sales Charge | Turn on additional sales charges for this company. Turning this off also clears all automatic creation triggers. |
| Charge Line Creation Trigger | Choose when additional sales charge lines are created: on request approval/release, or only on posting. |
| Condition Filters Last Updated At | Stores the last change timestamp for condition setup that affects filter matching cache invalidation. |
Define Additional Sales Charge Conditions
From the setup page, choose Additional Sales Charge Conditions (or search for it).
To create a new condition, click New in the list and fill in the condition header. Assign a meaningful code, then set the level and priority. The app will select one matching condition per level—so if you want to apply multiple types of charges (for example, item-based, freight-based, and payment-based charges), you can use different levels for each. This lets you combine additive charges across scenarios. The header fields define the priorities, levels, and filter conditions that determine when each charge should be applied.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Code | Unique code for this condition. |
| Description | What this condition is used for. |
| Level | Groups conditions into tiers. Only one condition per level applies; multiple levels can apply together. |
| Priority | Lower values are higher priority. |
| Starting Date | Specifies the first date when the condition is valid. The condition applies if the work date is on or after this date, or if blank, from any time. |
| Ending Date | Specifies the last date when the condition is valid. The condition applies if the work date is on or before this date, or if blank, with no end date. |
| Enabled | Only enabled conditions are evaluated. |
| Header Filter Text | Filter on document header fields (e.g., Customer, Payment Method). |
| Line Filter Text | Filter on document line fields (e.g., Item, Quantity). |
Lines
Lines represent the charges that will be added to the sales document when a condition applies. You can add lines of any type—such as Item, Resource, or G/L Account—and choose how the charge is calculated. This can be a fixed amount, a percentage, or even a value linked to the sales price of the item or resource on the line. This flexibility allows you to tailor additional charges to suit a wide range of business scenarios.
You can also add a comment line, which adds text only, such as "Free Shipping", with no quantity or amount. To add one, leave Line Type blank. Then either select a standard text in No. or type the text in Description. Comment lines don't use Variant Code, Unit of Measure, Quantity, Calculation Type or Calculation Base Value, so those fields are locked.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Line Type | Type of sales line to create (Item, Resource, G/L Account, etc.). Leave blank to add a comment line. |
| No. | Record number for the selected line type. For a comment line, optionally select a standard text. |
| Description | Text that appears on the created charge line. Required for every line, including comment lines. |
| Unit of Measure | Unit of measure for the charge line quantity. |
| Quantity | How many units to create when the condition applies. |
| Calculation Type | How the charge amount is calculated (Fixed Amount, Percentage, Percentage of Invoice Amount, Sales Price). |
| Calculation Base Value | The percentage or fixed value used in the calculation. |
| Line Filter | Filter on sales lines used to narrow which lines contribute to the percentage calculation base. Only available for Percentage and Percentage of Invoice Amount calculation types. Use AssistEdit to define the filter. |
Calculation Types
For detailed information about each calculation type and how charge lines behave during shipping and invoicing, refer to here.
After setting up your conditions, make sure to enable each one you want to use. Only enabled conditions are active—the app will ignore any that are not enabled. This lets you prepare or update conditions in advance without affecting users until you’re ready.
Manual Override
Each sales document has a Skip Adding Additional Sales Charges field. When this is enabled, the app will not automatically add, update, or delete charge lines on that document. This is useful when you want to manage the charge lines yourself—for example, to post a credit of only the charges, adjust amounts manually, or handle a one-off exception without creating a new condition.
When you enable the field on a document that already has charge lines, you will be asked whether to delete them. If you choose to keep them, they remain exactly as they are and will not be touched again by the app until the field is cleared.
To resume automatic management of the charge lines, clear the field. The lines will be recreated the next time the document is released or posted (depending on your trigger setting).
Examples
Example 1 – Stripe Payment Fee
Apply a surcharge automatically when the payment method is set to STRIPE on a sales invoice or order. This is useful for passing on payment processing costs to the customer.
Filter setup for Stripe payment fee:

Charge lines:

Example 2 – Multiple Levels (Product, Freight, Payment)
This scenario demonstrates how you can use levels to apply multiple charges for different business reasons on the same document:
- Hazardous charge: Triggers if any item on the sales document belongs to the hazardous item category.
- Freight surcharge: Triggers if the document contains any items (e.g., to cover shipping costs).
- Stripe payment fee: Triggers if the payment method is STRIPE.
Document Charge Conditions setup:

In the example below, the invoice contains an item and the payment method is Stripe. The product is not hazardous, so only the freight and Stripe charges are applied.
Resulting sales invoice with two charges added:

Example 3 – Free Shipping
Show "Free Shipping" on qualifying orders instead of charging freight.
- Create a condition on the same level as your freight charge, with a lower Priority number than the freight condition.
- Set the header or line filter that decides when an order qualifies for free shipping.
- Add one line, leave Line Type blank, and enter "Free Shipping" in Description.
- Enable the condition.
When an order matches, the app adds the "Free Shipping" comment line. Only one condition applies per level, so the freight charge is not added to that order.
